After ulcerative colitis, cancer of the rectum or Crohn's disease the intestines are sometimes no longer able to function and natural waste has to be removed via an opening made in the stomach wall. Connecting the intestine (colon or ileum) or the urethras to the skin of the abdomen by a surgical operation to permit the removal of stools or urine is known by the collective name "ostomy".

IXAN^®  blends co-extruded with other plastics enables ostomy bag wearers to lead an active life in the sure knowledge that there will be no leakage. These bags are highly sophisticated, and consist of medical grade plastic films which must meet several criteria:
impermeability, mechanical strength, seam strength, gas / odor barrier, protection and flexibility. In addition, they must not irritate the skin and must make the least possible noise so as not to draw attention to the wearer.

IXAN  PV 910 is a PVDC-preblend (2% ESO) for extrusion and coextrusion of films (heat shrinkable or not), and of thermoformable sheets. It is recommended for applications that require very good barrier.
